chapter 5- Melissa Granahan

In chapter 5 the advertisements I found to be most interesting were the breast and testicular cancer ads.  I think these ads are definitely successful in grabbing the readers attention because it is not everyday we see an ad zoomed in on a males crotch and a woman's breasts.  This is immediately effective because the audience wants to know what these ads could possibly be for.  Also the text that is placed directly on the spot where the cancer hits is also attention grabbing.  The text itself is also unexpected and as you read further you understand.  The thought of losing a body part is the motivation to seek a checkup.

I found this advertisement for "Bund" who supports the earth, to be an eye opening advertisement as well.  This ad is not humorous but is like the other ads a way to grab the audience's attention due to it's particular image.  This image is of a bear stuck between the big and little hand of a clock and looks like it is in danger.  Because the bear isn't in it's natural habitat and because ads for saving animals don't typically look like this ad, it is intriguing.  Instead of showing the cute animal and softening the audience's heart that way, this ad uses the real life bear in danger.  This shows the bear struggling and that shows the audience what are actually happening to these animals.
