Chapter 5

An important part of advertising is thinking about and understanding how viewers will connect and react to an ad. All of the examples in chapter 5 demonstrate how easily it is for the audience to truly connect with an ad. One that has stood out to me in the past is the “I feel like a fish” print for the Environmental Protection Agency. This ad displays a quote from a 5-year-old child about what it feels like to have an asthma attack. Immediately the text of this ad will pull on the heartstrings of many people. Also, the ad is very minimalistic and cuts directly to the point.

Another ad I found on the internet that truly connects to it’s viewers is an ad for keeping the ocean clean. There is a simple picture of 3 sushi rolls on a clean white plate but the seaweed has been replaced with trash. Although this ad is almost humorous, it truly makes the audience think about how dirty our oceans can be.
